Wooden figure and candlelight in the ancestral hall

FOLK HORROR

扳不倒儿

A wedding night. An old house. A vigil until dawn.

Folk horror set in the late Ming dynasty: a snowy wedding night, the old He family mansion, and a wooden figure in the ancestral hall.

A quiet beginning

Late in the Ming dynasty, snow falls over the old He family mansion. On her wedding night, a new bride keeps vigil in the ancestral hall, accompanied by a wooden figure known as He Weng. Dawn feels very far away.

Beyond the candlelight lie closed doors, deep corridors, and the hush of an old household. The red of a wedding lingers against the dark. In this house, even a familiar custom carries an unsettling weight.
